'You’re blowing this': New book reveals Melania Trump’s warning to her husband back in 2020

A new book is shedding light on former First Lady Melania Trump's take on her husband's approach to mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020.

According to Business Insider, the book, titled The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021, was co-written by New York Times' Peter Baker and CNN global affairs analyst, Susan Glasser. Based on their account of Melania Trump's perspective, she wasn't impressed with her husband's leadership.

At one point during the COVID pandemic, Melania Trump is said to have expressed concern about former President Donald Trump's leadership on a call with one of his allies, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R). Per the writers, she sought assistance to help persuade her husband to consider a different approach to mitigating the virus.

The book is also said to include details about Melania Trump's warning to her husband.

"'You're blowing this,' she recalled telling her husband," Baker and Glasser wrote, according to CNN. "'This is serious. It's going to be really bad, and you need to take it more seriously than you're taking it.'"

The former first lady's remarks came as her husband aggressively pushed back against mask-wearing and politicized other efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus. He also offered a number of outlandish suggestions including the use of unproven drugs and disinfectant injections to combat COVID.

The former president's actions came as the country faced a mounting death toll with hospital intensive care units (ICU) at capacity. But despite the medical crisis, Donald Trump made many decisions based on how it would impact his political agenda.

According to the writers, Trump waved off his wife's concerns despite all that was transpiring. “He had just dismissed her. ‘You worry too much,’ she remembered him saying. ‘Forget it,’” Baker and Glasser wrote.
