Marjorie Taylor Greene brags about getting a gigantic monetary fine for refusing to wear masks

As the death toll from COVID-19 continues to increase — passing 5.4 million worldwide and 830,000 in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore — far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has maintained her adamant opposition to vaccines, protective face masks and social distancing precautions. Greene has received almost $90,000 in fines for defying mask requirements, and those fines are a badge of honor for the MAGA Republican and Donald Trump loyalist.
During an appearance on right-wing Newsmax TV, a Fox News competitor, this week, Greene boasted, “I take the fines on the House floor. I'm up to almost $90,000 in fines on the House floor, because I believe as a representative — in order to represent the people, I have to be willing to do it myself. So, that’s why I don’t wear a mask, and I’m just trying to fight the fight for the people that are against it.”
Greene also told Newsmax’s Shaun Kraisman, “I’m very much against masks, especially for children. I think that it’s awful to mask children when they have virtually no threat from COVID…. Masking doesn’t work.”
In fact, COVID-19 can be dangerous to people of all ages, especially those who are unvaccinated. And according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, face masks — especially medical N-95 masks — slow down the spread of COVID-19.
When members of the U.S. House of Representatives defy the House’s mask rules, they are fined $500 for a first offense and $2500 for each offense after that.
