Watch: ‘Make rifles great again’: GOP candidate creates bizarre political campaign in support of rifles as he chases off Klansmen

An Arizona Republican congressional candidate has shared a bizarre, controversial pro-gun campaign advertisement on Twitter. On Wednesday, July 6, Jerone Davison shared a video on the social media platform that included the caption "Make Rifles Great Again" and the hashtags #SelfDefense and #2A in reference to Second Amendment rights.

The racially-charged political ad features a group of individuals dressed as Ku Klux Klansmen brandishing baseball bats and approaching Davison who is seen wearing a suit. In the voiceover for the clip, Davidson can be heard saying, "Democrats would like to say that no one needs an AR-15 for self-defense, that no one could possibly need all 30 rounds."

Then, Davison can be seen carrying an AR-15 assault rifle as he approaches the group of individuals. In the voiceover, he added a baseless claim about the need for assault rifles. "But when this rifle is the only thing standing between your family and a dozen angry Democrats in Klan hoods, you might just need that semi-automatic and all 30 rounds," his voiceover continued.

In response to a Twitter user's critical remarks describing the video as a "cinematic depiction" of the Republican candidate's earlier life, Davison wrote: "I was born in 1970 in Mississippi. When the KKK came to town, I always felt safe, because my father had rifles to protect us."

He added, "Racist white liberals love to tell me that my LIVED EXPERIENCE didn't happen!"

Davison, who is a former NFL player and current pastor, posted the controversial clip just two days after the horrific mass shooting that took place at a Fourth of July parade in the Highland Park area of Chicago, Ill. The shooting, which claimed the lives of seven victims and left dozens of others injured, has led to more arguments about the need for stricter gun laws in America.
