'Executioner for God': school board member detained over 'kill your children' comments
25 November 2023
A school board official in Tuolumne County, California — which lies southeast of Sacramento — has been detained for a mental health evaluation over disturbing comments written via email.
The Modesto Bee reports that 50-year-old Jason Vassar, who serves on the Belleview Elementary School District Board, is currently still in custody and undergoing a mental health evaluation in response to 93 pages of comments Vassar sent to school administrators. Vassar allegedly claimed to be the messiah in the documents, and made numerous comments alluding to anti-government conspiracies and espousing racist beliefs.
In one comment, Vassar reportedly threatened children, writing "I was kind of shocked to read in Revelations that I was going to be executioner for God and kill your children."

According to the Bee, Vassar initially met with administrators on October 30, including superintendent and principal Carmel Portillo, to discuss his mental health. Following that meeting, Vassar sent the administrators the emails, which also made references to communists and socialists. He also made Biblical references, including to the Antichrist.
Vassar also reportedly sent a threatening voicemail to a school administrator after he was served with a restraining order. The order prevents Vassar from being within 1,000 feet of Belleview Elementary campus, and to keep the same distance from students and staff.
The Bee reports that Vassar has been on Belleview Elementary's three-member board since 2015, when he was appointed to fill a vacancy. He was subsequently elected to a full term in 2016, and reelected in 2022. The district is now reportedly in the process of removing him from the board. The board oversees the single campus, which includes students enrolled in preschool through eighth grade.
