'You’re ridiculous!' Capitol riot hearing erupts after ex-acting defense secretary changes tune on Trump culpability

On Wednesday, May 12, the House Oversight Committee held a hearing on the response to the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol Building. One of the witnesses was former Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller — who got into a heated exchange with Democratic Rep. Steven Lynch of Massachusetts when he was being questioned.
Lynch wanted to demonstrate that former President Donald Trump's lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him encouraged the January 6 insurrection. The congressman asked Miller, "Did the president's remarks insight people in the crowd to march in the Capitol, or did they not?" — to which Miller responded that it "goes without saying" that Trump words "resulted in that."
At that point, Lynch noted what Miller said during a March interview with Vice. Miller told Vice, "Would anybody have marched on the Capitol, and tried to overrun the Capitol, without the president's speech? I think it's pretty much definitive that wouldn't have happened."
But Miller, after Lynch told him what he had said during that interview, said that Trump's speech at the Stop the Steal rally on January 6 was "not the unitary factor at all." And Lynch accused Miller of flip-flopping, describing his May 12 testimony as a "very recent reversal." In response, Miller angrily responded, "Absolutely not. That's ridiculous."
Lynch shot back, "You're ridiculous." And Miller sarcastically told him, "Thank you for your thoughts."
The congressman went on to tell Miller, "You understand how not believable your new testimony, your new version of testimony (is)."
