Tennessee GOP lawmaker dismisses calls for stricter gun control despite Nashville school shooting

A Republican lawmaker in Tennessee is pushing back against the calls for stricter gun control in the United States despite yet another school shooting claiming the lives of innocent victims.

On Friday, March 31, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) appeared on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" with news anchor Laura Ingraham where they discussed the latest shooting. Ingraham began with a reference to a report published by the New York Post.

“CBS has decided it’s not worth mentioning that the killer was transgender,” Ingraham said. “According to the New York Post, CBS executives, Congressman, says the shooter’s gender identity has not been confirmed by CBS News.”

In a sarcastic tone, she continued saying, “I’m sure they’d do that if the killer was a member of the NRA or something.”

“I mean, this is clearly pursuing a leftist agenda,” Ogles replied before discussing a recent protest that took place in Nashville the day before. “The folks that rushed and stormed the Tennessee state capitol – by the way, if you were to use Jan. 6 as the model, every one of those people should be incarcerated without due process.”

He went on to criticize the perspective of those advocating for stricter gun laws as he argued that firearms are not the real problem in America.

“This clearly is someone who was deeply troubled,” he continued. “And the idea that guns are the problem here is ridiculous. This individual had, you know, mental illness and [was] a murderer.”

The latest remarks from Ogles come just days after he faced deep criticism for his family's gun-toting Christmas card. In wake of the Nashville school shooting, the pro-gun lawmaker's family's holiday photo resurfaced causing deep controversy. However, he has continued to defend his stance on firearms.
