CNN analyst delivers GOP a brutal reality check about the crippling effects of Trumpism

A CNN political analyst recently explained how the crippling effects of Trumpism are continuing to plague the Republican Party.

On Tuesday, December 6, senior political analyst Ron Brownstein appeared on CNN shortly after the Georgia runoff election was called for Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), who defeated Republican Senate hopeful Herschel Walker.

Initially, the GOP believed the former NFL player had a viable chance of unseating Warnock because he was publicly endorsed by former President Donald Trump. However, that wasn't the case. In fact, Brownstein noted what appears to be an adverse effect from Trump endorsements.

Walker is now the seventh Trump-backed candidate to lose a midterm election. According to HuffPost, Trump-backed candidates who ran in gubernatorial and Senate races lost in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Brownstein also noted that election losses suggest suburban residents have made distinct shifts against the party.

"Tonight, Republicans have lost. All seven Republicans in those states who are nominated for governor or senator with Trump's specific endorsement have now lost," Brownstein said, adding, "And they've lost in a very consistent way by having the suburban areas move sharply against them."

He continued, “There is a consistent pattern here of these big populous, thriving population centers in the metro areas rejecting the Trump-era definition of the party and their increased strength in the rural areas not being quite enough to overcome that."
