George W. Bush slammed for comments on Taliban’s Afghanistan takeover: 'No contrition or self-awareness'

Former President George W. Bush has had a lot to say about the Taliban's victory in Afghanistan, which the far-right Islamist group now controls for the first time since 2001. And some of Bush's critics haven't been shy about pointing out the former president's foreign policy blunders.

Bush, in a statement earlier this week, lamented, "Our hearts are heavy for both the Afghan people who have suffered so much and for the Americans and NATO allies who have sacrificed so much." The former president also commented that, along with his wife Laura Bush, he has "been watching the tragic events unfolding in Afghanistan with deep sadness."

MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan was vehemently critical of Bush and the late Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld when he filled in for his colleague Chris Hayes this week, slamming the Bush Administration as a foreign policy nightmare. And Hasan is not alone in lambasting Bush.
