Here's the White House plan to address country's bottleneck problems

The Biden administration is addressing the longstanding problem of bottlenecks at the United States' largest ports in Calif. Although the American Rescue Plan was designed to provide financial relief for businesses in need, the White House has revealed that process hasn't been as seamless as initially hoped.

Now, changes are being made. On October 13, the White House issued a press release that stated: "The Administration is convening business leaders, port leaders, and union leaders to discuss the challenges at ports across the country and actions each partner can take to address the delays and congestion across the transportation supply chain."

The changes the initiative will bring are as follows:

"The Port of Los Angeles is expanding to 24/7 operation.
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has announced its members are willing to work those extra shift.
Large companies are announcing they will use expanded hours to move more cargo off the docks, so ships can come to shore faster.

"The federal government will be a strong and willing partner in this effort in the near term but also in rebuilding a better system for the 21st century," White House officials said. "We'll be working with stakeholders across the supply chain for a 90-day sprint to the end of the year to troubleshoot and alleviate many of the bottlenecks we can quickly address."

Per NBC News:

"The officials said that UPS and FedEx combined to ship 40 percent of U.S. packages by volume last year and that by taking this step, 'they're telling the rest of the supply chain you need to move it, to let's step it up.'"

The White House also confirmed that a number of the United States' largest retailers and supply chains — including Walmart, Target, UPS, FedEx, The Home Depot, and Samsung — also announced their commitment ro the initiative with increased business operations in hopes of getting their logistics back on track.

"This effort is part of the ongoing work of the Biden-Harris Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force to continue to identify emerging bottlenecks to the economic recovery," the White Jouse wrote, adding, "and take action to clear them to help families, workers, and businesses get the goods they need."
