Watch: Former RNC chair torches Trump amid accusations that he destroyed presidential documents

A former chair for the Republican National Committee (RNC) slammed former President Donald Trump on television with a parody of his actions. On Thursday, February 10, Michael Steele appeared on MSNBC's The ReidOut with Joy Reid where he was asked if he believed Trump had destroyed classified documents, according to Newsweek.

The former RNC chair, also an MSNBC political analyst, responded with a comical dramatization of the former president's alleged actions. "Well, first, could you pass the salt?" Steele asked suggesting he believed Trump had done so. Putting a piece of paper into his mouth, Steele said, "Yummy, yummy. Pass the salt, please."

"I'm stupid!" he exclaimed.

Steele's remarks follow allegations reported in Confidence Man, a new book written by New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman. In the book, Haberman claims Trump violated the Presidential Records Act by destroying classified documents. That claim stems from the latest reports that some of Trump's administrative staff members "found pieces of paper in toilets from documents they suspect Trump of attempting to flush," per Newsweek.

Haberman's claim also aligns with a previous report published by The Washington Post that suggested Trump had a habit of regularly ripping up a wide range of documents. From memos, important briefings and schedules, to news articles and letters, Trump reportedly did not mind ripping up paper.

Courtney Chartier, president of the Society of American Archivists, weighed in with her take on the latest reports. "It is absolutely a violation of the [Presidential Records Act]," Chartier said. "There is no ignorance of these laws. There are White House manuals about the maintenance of these records."

Steele also recalled the controversy Trump stirred regarding alleged emails belonging to Hillary Clinton. According to Steele, Trump's violations are far worse.

"As for Hillary Clinton and her emails, I don't want to hear another word, not a damn word, from anybody, talking about Hillary Clinton and national security and her server," Steele said. "After this son of a you-know-who is sitting up there eating documents, please!"
