'Eyepatch McCain': Tucker Carlson torches Dan Crenshaw

Fox News' Tucker Carlson took aim at Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) amid his ongoing circulation of conspiracy theories about the unrest taking place in Ukraine. On Monday, May 16, Carlson criticized Republican lawmakers who are working with Democrats to ensure the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The conservative television host's latest remarks come as Congress attempts to send an additional $40 billion to help Ukraine. However, Carlson is arguing that somehow, the problems in Ukraine may not be as bad as reports suggest since Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) recently traveled to Kyiv.

“You may be wondering, how do you walk around a war zone like that?” he asked his audience. “It’s certainly interesting.”

He went on to share a clip of Crenshaw criticizing his fellow Republican lawmakers who are against the idea of supporting Ukrainians' request for weaponry. To Crenshaw, such opposition comes across as being "Pro Russia." Crenshaw also expressed support for Congress' monetary efforts to help Ukraine as he argued that "$40 billion in the U.S. would not buy anyone baby formula in the U.S." because he argued it’s “not a money issue.”

Carlson wasted no time criticizing the Republican lawmakers for his arguments.

“Why is Congress so focused on Ukraine but you can’t find baby formula?” he asked. “According to congressman Dan Crenshaw of Texas, asking questions like that, or really any questions at all, thinking you are a citizen, makes you ‘pro-Russia.’”

Carlson also slammed Crenshaw as he mocked his eye patch with a reference to the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). “You know, the more I think about it, it takes a lot of gall for eye patch McCain to attack moms who are worried about baby formula as pro-Russia,” he said.

At one point during the segment, Carlson featured Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) on his show. She also agreed with Carlson as she insisted that political parties shouldn't be rushed to make decisions regarding Ukraine and NATO.

“There is no imminent threat, or even long-term threat of Russia invading Finland or Sweden,” Gabbard argued. “Russia can barely hold on to a very small sliver of Ukraine right now.”
