President Donald Trump has launched into a new tantrum over what he claims is more vandalism in Washington D.C., but according to The New Republic, he might have accidentally "implicated himself" in the process.
After his attempt to blame the Reflecting Pool remodel fiasco on supposed left-wing vandalism crashed and burned, Trump has a new accusation. Taking to Truth Social on Sunday, Trump shared a photo of a large patch of dead grass on the National Mall, again claiming that vandals were to blame.
"Look what VANDALS did to the grass connecting the vandalized World War II Monument and the vandalized Reflecting Pool, which will be opened again, and better than ever, shortly,” Trump's post read. “Anybody who thinks the Reflecting Pool wasn’t vandalized should go back to Law School!”
Despite these new claims, The New Republic pointed out in a Monday report that the affected area was the same part of the National Mall where Trump had a massive stage built for the "Great American State Fair" celebration that coincided with the 250th anniversary celebrations last month. In effect, the outlet argued, Trump appears to have highlighted a problem that was more than likely caused by his own gaudy July 4th bash.
Trump's post also made reference to a World War II monument that he claimed was vandalized last week, after it was found covered in red and green paint, as well as "soapy bubbles." The New Republic noted that "U.S. Attorney Jeannine Pirro said felony charges are being brought against Melissa L. Farris" in connection with this alleged vandalism, "but the charging documents made no mention of the patch of dead grass on the lawn." Pirro previously drew Trump's outrage after dismissing the criminal charges related to the Reflecting Pool, with her office admitting in court that the issues stemmed from the hasty remodeling project.
"Regardless of Trump’s apparent outrage, the president has demonstrated that he couldn’t care less about protecting national landmarks — he’s the one destroying them," the report added. "The president who cried vandalism has been behind a lot of the destruction at the National Mall. The Department of Justice concluded that Trump and his hand-picked contractors were responsible for the damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool that left the monument drained and surrounded by chain-link fences. Trump’s federal contractors were also also responsible for cracking the fountain at the German-American Friendship Garden. Not to mention that across the country Trump is actively bulldozing Big Bend National Park in order to build his border wall."
