Trump struggles to keep his eyes open as Cabinet showers him with praise

President Donald Trump held a Cabinet meeting on Friday at Camp David, where each of his officials talked about what a great job he's doing. Still, the president appeared to have a difficult time keeping his eyes open.

The White House has pushed back on rumors that the president dozes off during public events like Cabinet meetings, Oval Office events and Sen. Lindsey Graham's funeral. They've made it clear that only “depraved morons" believe that Trump was sleeping during Graham's funeral.

“President Trump was reflecting on the loss of his dear friend Lindsey Graham, for whom he had just delivered a beautiful eulogy,” a White House spokesperson said.

In February, Trump appeared to snooze in the first meeting of his Board of Peace.

In May, Trump appeared to doze off during the Oval Office event on maternal health. The White House at the time attacked reporters, saying photos were being posted of him "blinking."

"He was blinking, you absolute moron," a Trump staffer said on social media.

Critics say he's blinking for a long time.

During an early June Oval Office event with Lee Zeldin, his Environmental Protection Agency administrator, Trump was opening and closing his eyes abruptly as they talked about so-called "clean coal."

In late June, Trump appeared to rest his eyes while an Oval Office event unfolded around him about the separation of church and state.

Such cases of closing his eyes appear to be occurring more frequently than in 2025. One incident CNN posted about included Trump appearing to doze off during another Cabinet meeting in early December.

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, spent Thursday night ribbing Trump over the Graham incident.

Kimmel described the president as sitting in his friend's funeral "with his eyes heavy, his face slack and the internet collectively whispering the phrase that must hurt him more than any indictment, any poll, any protest sign or any judge with a working gavel, 'Sleepy Don.'"

There were multiple outlets that reported after the funeral that Trump struggled to keep his eyes open or appeared nod off.

"So, there it is, the man who branded Joe Biden 'Sleepy Joe' for years now, had cameras catch him in church looking like the WiFi went out behind his eyes," quipped Kimmel. "The irony is so thick it should have had pallbearers."

Kimmel noted that even at a time that should be about Graham, Trump stole the show, again making it about himself.
