Political analysts explain why Trump may believe a 2024 presidential run could quell his legal woes

A political analyst has offered his take on the possibility of a 2024 presidential run quelling former President Donald Trump's legal woes.

In a new analysis, The Guardian's David Smith also shed light on the obstacles that may also arise if Trump were to announce a presidential run. According to Smith, he would be subjected to new campaign fundraising laws that would ultimately regulate how campaign funds are utilized.

Another political analyst shared a different perspective noting that the former president's flurry of legal woes and criminal investigations could also be problematic. Political analyst Larry Sabato argues that Trump be being ill-advised if he's being told a presidential announcement would help to combat his legal woes.

According to Sabato, Trump's legal issues could lead to major setbacks.

In Smith's piece, he wrote, "It is possible, however, that should Trump’s legal perils reach a critical point of no return, that will be the spur for him to declare his candidacy and make the bogus claim to his supporters that he is the victim of a politically motivated persecution."

Sabato, also director at the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, went further saying, “He believes incorrectly that, if he’s a formal candidate, that will somehow protect him from legal charges. It will not. We’ve had quite a number of candidates in American history who got into legal troubles so I don’t know why he thinks that."

He then added, "Somebody probably said something to him once and he never let it go.”

Sabato also noted that there is also a possibility that Trump's health could lead to complications if he does decide to run for president again in 2024.

“Nobody knows," he admitted. "He is very likely to run again but I can see scenarios in which he wouldn’t. He said himself, let’s see how my health is. He hasn’t had the best diet in the world and doesn’t look to me to be in particularly good shape.”

Despite the speculation, one political commentator insists that's exactly what Trump wants.

"He’s an attention whore and everything always has to be about Donald," said Kurt Bardella. "He has to make himself the centre of the universe so he goes out there and plays this little flirtatious ‘will he, won’t he?’ card and it’s just designed to continue to keep that conversation going."
