Conservative details Trump’s ability to make 'emasculated' GOP 'stop caring about national security'
13 February 2024
2024 GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump set off yet another controversy when, during a weekend campaign speech in South Carolina, he told a MAGA crowd he would encourage Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade NATO countries if they didn't "pay" their fair share.
Trump's remarks have drawn scathing criticism from Democrats and NATO members, but Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida), Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) and other Republicans have been jumping through hoops to defend him. Many Never Trump conservatives, however, have been vehemently calling Trump out; MSNBC's Joe Scarborough slammed Trump as a "complete idiot."
Meanwhile, on CNN, Never Trumper S.E. Cupp argued that Republicans who are defending Trump's NATO/Putin comments show how badly Trump has "emasculated" the GOP.

During a Monday, February 12 panel discussion, Cupp argued, "We've watched this emasculation of the GOP and guys like Marco Rubio, who used to talk tough, really bending over backwards to contort, defend and explain and translate Donald Trump. But the bottom line here is that Donald Trump doesn't know what an ally is."
Cupp added, "His interest in loyalty flows one way. It's one way: your loyalty to me. He has no interest in a loyalty to other people. The idea of allies is so completely lost on him that I don't think there's any point in explaining or even pointing out how grotesque this is. He just doesn't care."
The CNN conservative went on to argue that Trump has made Republicans abandon so many of the principles they once championed.
"This is the really amazing trick that Donald Trump has managed to pull off," Cupp told a CNN panel. "First, he managed to get conservatives to stop caring about conservatism. Then, he got Christians to stop caring about scripture, the Bible. What would Jesus do? Now, Jesus is woke. He got Americans to stop caring about American and what democracy should mean."

Cupp continued, "And in this instance, he got the patriotic, military-loving far right to stop caring about national security — and to stop caring about our servicemen, and women. Our troops. I mean, it's a feat what Donald Trump has done to the right in this country in a very short period of time."
