President Donald Trump is reportedly not above gossiping about members of his own Cabinet.
That's according to a Friday report in the New York Post, which cited several unnamed sources close to the president who say Trump believes Department og Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her top advisor, Corey Lewandowski (who is also Trump's one-time campaign manager) are secretly dating. Whether the two are actually in a relationship has not been confirmed, and the two are currently married to other people.
One of the Post's sources said Trump likes to "frequently" remind anyone within earshot that he once saw Noem and Lewandowski sip from the same soda can. The Post noted that Trump is a known germaphobe, and that the detail stuck out to him as particularly odd.
"You can’t do that, it’s pretty obvious! You can’t do that, everyone’s going to know!" Trump reportedly said.
“That’s his go-to story,” the source added. “He says that frequently about them.”
The unconfirmed story comes just one day after the Wall Street Journal published an explosive report about Noem and Lewandowski's chaotic tenure at DHS. The Journal reported that Lewandowski once fired a U.S. Coast Guard pilot after he failed to bring Noem's blanket along with him when the DHS secretary had to change planes. The pilot was only re-hired after Noem learned no one else was available to fly her home.
The Journal also reported that Lewandowski frequently clashed with U.S. Customs and Border Protection commissioner Rodney Scott. After Scott rebuffed Lewandowski's orders by telling him his 130-day window as a special government employee had lapsed, Lewandowski and Noem reportedly retaliated by reassigning Scott's chief of staff and pressuring his deputy chief of staff to resign, replacing both with staffers loyal to Noem.
According to the Journal, the DHS is expected to purchase a new $70 million jet for Noem's use that it's currently leasing. The jet reportedly includes a private cabin in the rear of the plane.
