Trump: Jewish people who vote for Biden 'should have their head examined'

Former President Donald Trump made an eyebrow-raising remark that appeared to denigrate roughly 70% of Jewish Americans during a recent appearance in a battleground state.

On Wednesday, the X/Twitter account Republican Voters Against Trump posted a video of the former president speaking on the tarmac after stepping off of his private jet in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Any Jewish person that votes for a Democrat or votes for Biden should have their head examined," Trump said.

According to a Pew Research study published in 2021, approximately seven out of 10 Jewish people in America vote Democratic in most elections, with Pew describing Jewish voters as one of "the most consistently liberal and Democratic groups in the US population."

"This general inclination toward the Democratic Party and liberal values goes hand-in-hand with disapproval of former Republican President Donald Trump," researchers wrote. "In this survey, conducted roughly five to 12 months before the 2020 presidential election, nearly three-quarters of Jewish adults disapproved of the job Trump was doing as president, while just 27% rated him positively – far below the 65% who approved of President Barack Obama’s job performance in 2013."

The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) also panned Trump's remarks in Georgia in a tweet of their own, reiterating that the vast majority of American Jews "oppose him and his hateful, deranged vision for America."

"Trump is the one who needs his head examined," JDCA tweeted. "Turns out attacking our intelligence, promising to be a dictator 'on day one,' and inviting a neo-Nazi over for dinner will not make Jewish Americans want to vote for him. We stand with President Biden because he stands up for our values – there’s never been a clearer contrast."

The dinner JDCA referenced was in 2022, when the former president invited rapper Ye (formerly Kanye West) to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where he was joined by neo-Nazi influencer Nick Fuentes. Trump maintained that he was unaware that Ye was bringing Fuentes with him, though that seems unlikely. As a former president, Trump has a 24-7 Secret Service detail that would fully vet everyone who comes in contact with him and brief him prior to their arrival.

As the Texas Tribune reported in 2023, Fuentes has repeatedly praised Adolf Hitler, called for a "holy war" against Jewish people and compared the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust to cookies being baked in an oven. He's also called for the US to be ruled by an authoritarian "Catholic Taliban" regime, and said he that all he wants is "revenge against my enemies and a total Aryan victory."

Ye is also a vehement anti-Semite, once tweeting that he was going to "go death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE" after he was banned from Instagram. In 2022, he told far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones that he sees "good things about Hitler." He added that while he loves Jewish people, he also "love[s] Nazis."
