Trump held 'off-the-books meetings' in the days leading up to the Capitol riots: Former WH press secretary

Stephanie Grisham, former White House press secretary, provided significant details about President Donald Trump's chaotic days leading up to the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol, according to inside sources.

Speaking to the House Select Committee investigators, Grisham revealed there were a number of "off-the-books meetings" held in the White House residence as Trump continued to mull over ways to halt the certification of President Joe Biden's election victory.

According to The Guardian, inside sources have said that Grisham gave House investigators "an overview of the chaotic final weeks in the Trump White House in the days leading up to the Capitol attack, recalling how the former president held off-the-books meetings in the White House residence."

Per Grisham, only a small group of individuals were made aware of the meetings, which were typically scheduled by former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and former chief usher, Timothy Harleth. As the investigation continues, the House Select Committee is trying to determine whether or not the former president made a promise he never intended to keep because he hoped an incited insurrection would halt the certification of President Joe Biden's win.

Grisham also suggested that "Trump’s intentions – and whether the Secret Service had been told Trump had decided not to march to the Capitol – should be reflected in the presidential line-by-line, the document that outlines the president’s movements," per inside sources.

In addition to sharing details about the private meetings, Grisham also offered insight on how critical coordination was "between the Trump White House, the Secret Service and organizers of the 'Save America' rally at the Ellipse on 6 January in order to ensure Trump’s appearance." Trump was reportedly determined to be a keynote speaker at the rally once he learned that it would take place.

The latest details about Grisham's testimony come as House investigators face difficulty with getting Trump allies to cooperate with the investigation. As of January 2022, more than 700 individuals have been charged in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection.
