If President Donald Trump thought his ratings couldn't get any worse, he was wrong, said CNN's data analyst, Harry Enten.
The numbers guru reported Tuesday that, on foreign policy, Trump has taken a nosedive in America's trust in him.
"So how's the president doing on foreign policy?" asked CNN host John Berman.
"Bad. Bad. I mean, you know, he came into office. 'Oh, you know, I'm going to end the wars.' Well, the wars aren't ending," Enten said. "And if anything, we're adding to them. And you can just see it right here. I mean, Trump and foreign policy in 2024 versus Kamala Harris. Foreign policy was a strength for this president. He was trusted more on foreign policy than Kamala Harris!"
That is no longer the case, however. While Trump may have been up by 10 points over Harris in 2024, that number has not only flipped, but it has double-flipped.
"The net approval now on foreign policy in 2026 — down he goes right into the Strait of Hormuz," Enten joked, referencing Trump's failures in the Iran war.
"Look at this: 22 points in the negative direction. A minus-22-point net approval rating," he continued. "That is a drop of over 30 points. And among independents, he is now at negative 30 points. You know, I love those notes at the bottom of the screen. Johnny B, so that is a movement of 44 points among independents."
Foreign policy was a huge strength for Trump in the 2024 campaign because he promised he would stop the so-called "forever wars" like Iraq and Afghanistan. He also bragged he could end the war between Ukraine and Russia in 24 hours and even said he might end it before he even takes office.
"Well, here in reality, the war is still going on," Enten said, mocking the president. "And obviously that has been in the news very much recently. And you could see it right here. Trump in the Russia-Ukraine war. Look at this in 2024. Again, it was a strength for him, slightly more trusted than Kamala Harris by two points."
But the shift there has been considerable. Trump went from up by 2 points to down by 19 points.
"That's a 20-point switcheroo," Enten said.
Independents make it even worse. He was up 7 points with them and is now down 36 points, a more than 40-point drop in less than two years.
The Iran war was already unpopular, but it has grown more unpopular.
"Look at this again, you start in the negative at -19 points. You say it can't get any worse. It absolutely has gotten worse. We're talking now -28 points a shift again of about ten points in the negative direction from an already low point. And I'm not thinking that the rise in gas prices will help him out," Enten closed.
