Critics praise Supreme Court’s snub of Epstein co-conspirator — but warn Trump will 'bury the truth'

Critics erupted following Monday's announcement by the Supreme Court that they would not hear the appeal of Jeffrey Epstein co-conspirator and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, meaning that her conviction and 20-year criminal sentence remains in place.

Maxwell, who was moved to a cushy prison camp following a day-and-a-half long interview with President Donald Trump's deputy attorney general Todd Blanche, was convicted on counts including sex trafficking and conspiracy. She was acquitted of one count of coercing or enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts.

Although federal officials say that Maxwell "assisted, facilitated, and participated in Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse of minor girls,” she insists she is being treated as "A proxy for Epstein simply because Epstein is no longer here."

Maxwell’s appeal to the Supreme Court, the Washington Post reports, focused on a plea agreement Epstein had reached in South Florida to resolve allegations he molested dozens of young girls which stated that if Epstein fulfilled its terms, “the United States also agrees that it will not institute any criminal charges against any potential co-conspirators of Epstein."

Despite that, Maxwell was prosecuted a decade later. After Maxwell's interview with Blanche, her attorney signaled Trump for a pardon, saying she “would welcome any relief." The attorney also said that if Maxwell were granted clemency, she would be “eager” to testify publicly before Congress.

The Supreme Court gave no reason for denying Maxwell's motion to appeal and her attorneys expressed "disappointment," saying "this fight isn't over." Social media offered some of their own opinions.

"Well, she is a criminal who refused to testify in her own trial, so sure, the Supreme Court finally got one thing right. But let’s be real: this isn’t justice. Ghislaine Maxwell is still sitting pretty in a cushy federal prison while her co-conspirator-in-chief plays president again. Trump was Epstein’s friend and fellow predator. Now he’s using the power of the presidency to bury the truth, to protect himself, not the victims. So no, this isn’t a win. It’s a reminder that America still protects monsters better than it protects the people they destroyed," wrote veteran and X user Frank C.

John Bissell said the potential for a Trump pardon "further [cements] the Republican Party as the party who protects and swears allegiance to child predators."

Forever Voyager on X agreed about the pardon, saying "Trump has never, ever, expressed the slightest empathy for the Epstein victims. The only empathy he expressed was to wish Ghislaine Maxwell well. He'll pardon her to keep her quiet."

Journalist Michael Luongo says justice has been served, writing on X, "Sometimes there is good news — sometimes the Supreme Court behaves logically — the only thing is, as in so many cases, it seems only a woman is in jail for crimes committed mostly by men."
