Rep. Richard Hudson (NC-R), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), warned CNN's chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju about worrying economic signs and a need for Republicans to improve their messaging on the economy.
The primary mission of the NRCC is to elect Republicans to the House by providing strategic and financial support to candidates, but if economic indicators have anything to do with that, Hudson sees troubling signs.
"I think there's the reality and there's the messaging, and both need to be moving in the right direction for the American people. You know, people are hurting," Hudson said on the steps of the Capitol.

In August Hudson faced criticism for a leaked memo that included plans to "raise taxes on the middle class."
