President Donald Trump threatened Cuba on Sunday morning via his Truth Social account and now Cuba is responding.
In a post, he wrote, "Cuba lived, for my years, on large amounts of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela. In return, Cuba provided 'Security Services' for the last two Venezuelan dictators, BUT NOT ANYMORE!"
"THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA — ZERO! I strongly suggest they make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT," the president added.
Reuters national security reporter Phil Stewart wrote on X that later Sunday morning, Cuba responded with its own statement on Trump's threat.
Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel told Reuters, "Cuba is a free, independent, and sovereign nation. Nobody dictates what we do. Cuba does not attack; it has been attacked by the U.S. for 66 years, and it does not threaten; it prepares, ready to defend the homeland to the last drop of blood."
Trump earlier this month invaded Venezuela and captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that the military will give Trump options for a military attack on Iran in a Tuesday meeting.
