'Nonsense': Trump blows up at reporters for bringing up 'conspiracy theories'

President Donald Trump continues to be dogged by the Jeffrey Epstein scandal even while visiting another continent.

After landing on the tarmac in Scotland on Friday, Trump took questions from reporters — many of whom wanted to know more about the ongoing controversy that has divided his base and put a halt to Congress' work schedule. While answering a question about whether he advised House Republican leadership to oppose resolutions to make the Epstein files public, Trump quickly shot down the reporter's question, and went on to blast the media for its refusal to stop covering "conspiracy theories."

"I was never involved in that," Trump said. "I'm focused on making deals. I'm not focused on conspiracy theories that you are. I mean, I watch you people, it's so sad. You ought to talk about the success of our country instead of this nonsense you talk about over and over again."

During another exchange, one journalist asked Trump directly if he had been briefed on his name coming up in the Epstein files. Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Attorney General Pam Bondi briefed Trump in May that his name came up several times in the Epstein-related evidence the Department of Justice reviewed.

"No, I was never briefed, no," Trump told reporters.

The president's insistence that the Epstein scandal is little more than "conspiracy theories" flies in the face of his 2024 campaign rhetoric. In an interview with Fox News last year, Trump promised to declassify at last some parts of the Epstein files (he balked at releasing the full file, claiming that some of its contents were "phony."

ABC News reported earlier this month that the FBI had categorized and indexed a trove of Epstein-related evidence from the 2019 investigation into the convicted pedophile. Some of the evidence that has yet to see the light of day includes a log book of visits to Epstein's private compound in the U.S. Virgin Islands, boat trips to and from the property and a "document with names."
