Town residents push back against county’s 'stolen election' board

Residents in Shasta County, Calif., are growing impatient with the county's deeply conservative election board, and the latest board member appointment has caused even more of an uproar.

According to MSNBC News, the county has become "ground zero" for a rapidly growing conservative movement in the deep blue state of California. Many of the former members of the election board have been replaced with far-right enthusiasts.

"Shasta County has become ground zero for election conspiracies in a way that threatens to completely upend the county's system of voting," MSNBC'S Alex Wagner reported. "Now, it all started back in 2021 and 2022, when low local militia groups teamed up with a wealthy conservative filmmaker living in Connecticut and started a campaign to oust the Republican leadership in Shasta County."

She added, "Several long-serving Republicans on the Board of Supervisors were replaced with hard right members who have now made it their mission to transform Shasta County into even more of a conservative utopia."

Now, the county's board has elected a known secessionist leader to serve as head of the organization.

"Today the LA Times reports that the newly super-conservative Shasta County Board of Supervisors offered the top job of running the county to the leader of a California secessionist movement, a man who wants to get all the rural, conservative parts of California to secede from the more liberal parts and become a 51st state, which is quite an idea," Wagner said.

In addition to the latest appointment, new reports have also shed light on Shasta County supervisor Kevin Crye's recent actions.

According to Record Searchlight, the supervisor traveled to meet with MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell to discuss voting machine replacements with manual methods of counting as they continue to circulate claims of widespread voter fraud.

On Tuesday, March 14, Crye shared details about his "county-sponsored" trip during a Board of Supervisors meeting.
