Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) still hasn't lived down his Feb. 2021 trip to Cancún, Mexico amid a winter storm that cut power to 4.5 million people and took hundreds of lives. Now he's at it again. As a new winter storm prepares to barrel across the U.S. over the weekend, Cruz was spotted on a plane to Laguna Beach, Florida.
"Death, taxes, and Ted Cruz will abandon you as soon as the temperature drops," quipped Matt Royer, president of the Virginia Young Democrats.
"Like clockwork," quipped the Lincoln Project.
Activist and author Tara Dublin wondered "if another 8-year-old will freeze to death in his own bed while Senator Wheelie Bag is nice [and] warm in Laguna Beach[.]"
Her comment was a reference to Cristian Pineda, an 8-year-old boy from Houston who died from hypothermia when his family's home lost heat during the 2021 freeze.
Some remembered the family's poodle, Snowflake, who was spotted looking out the front door while the family was gone.
"Texas freezes, Ted flees," posted the Voter Protection Project.
Former ambassador, Luis Moreno, commented, "Give the man points for amazing cowardly consistency."
"Sen Ted Cruz is very sensitive to cold!" commented MS NOW's Molly Jong-Fast.
"Two unconventional signs of severe incoming weather: 1. A waffle house being closed 2. Ted Cruz hopping on a plane to take a vacation," remarked New Orleans journalist Danny Cherry Jr.
Sanho Tree, a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, compared it to "how animals can tell there’s going to be an earthquake. Ted Cruz can tell when Texas is about to freeze over."
"Punxsutawney Ted has seen his shadow so that means 2 weeks of no power for the South," one mockery account needled.
