Security called at Montana airport after Ted Cruz 'got into a confrontation' with 2 United employees: report

When Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas was in Montana on Sunday, March 20, he needed to get back to Washington, D.C. for the Senate confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson — President Joe Biden’s nominee to replace Justice Stephen Breyer, who is retiring, on the U.S. Supreme Court. And according to the Daily Mail, the far-right GOP senator became so upset after missing his flight that airport security was notified.

The Daily Mail’s Elizabeth Elkind reports that Cruz “got into a confrontation with employees of” Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport in Montana and was “apparently irritated by missing his flight.”

A 23-second video, according to Elkind, shows Cruz “facing off with two female employees” of United Airlines “in the first half of the clip” before the arrival of “a single male law enforcement officer.”

Scott Humphrey, the airport’s deputy director, discussed the incident with the Daily Mail, explaining, “One of our Public Safety Officers (PSO) was in the ticket lobby and was asked to assist with a frustrated passenger at the United ticket counter…. The passenger had missed the check-in window for his flight and re-booking options were limited out of Bozeman due to Spring Break. Once travel options were explained to the passenger, he was rebooked, and departed Bozeman later that evening. Our PSO didn’t realize he was dealing with Sen. Cruz until after the fact.”

During the incident, Elkind reports, Cruz said something along the lines of “Do you know who I am?”

Senate confirmation hearings for Jackson commenced on Monday, March 21, the day after that incident.

Elkind notes, “Cruz was ridiculed online after the incident, which was compared to his infamous attempt to escape to Cancun, Mexico while millions of his constituents in Texas were stuck without electricity amid historic low winter temperatures. The senator and his wife Heidi were seen boarding a flight to the tropical destination in February of last year, during Texas' deadly power crisis.”
