Ted Cruz ridiculed for mistaking 'Western Australia' for 'Washington State' in ill-fated attack on Dems

Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) latest attack on Democratic lawmakers backfired when he appeared to confuse "Western Australia" with "Washington State."

On Wednesday, December 29, the Texas lawmaker took to Twitter to blast Democrats over COVID-19 mitigation restrictions. Describing Democrats as "authoritarian kill-joys," Cruz falsely claimed dancing would be banned from New Year's Eve celebrations in Washington.

"Blue-state Dems are power-drunk authoritarian kill-joys," he tweeted. "Washington State: NO DANCING ALLOWED!!! Any rational & free citizen: Piss off."

Despite Cruz's claims, dancing is not banned in Washington State but rather in West Australia. According to the West Australia's government website:

"Certain high-risk music events are not permitted as dancing is banned and seated food and beverage consumption requirements are in place as part of public health and social measures.

Any gathering of more than 500 patrons (whether in public of private) that involves the playing of recorded music or live performances involving singing or dancing for the purposes of entertainment is not permitted. In addition, certain specific music events are not permitted."

The lawmaker later deleted his tweet — but not before screenshots were snapped.

Almost immediately after Cruz shared the tweet, he was slammed on social media. Users quickly fired back at the lawmaker to highlight his error and correct him. One user wrote, "Happy to send Cruz to Western Australia to straighten out any blue state democrats there. He is not a smart individual."
