President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he would be turning a new page with a new chief of staff in the White House for the new Democratic Congress. Susie Wiles is out and Stephen Miller is in.
"I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026. Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!" Trump wrote online before signing his name.
If Democrats thought there was a chance of bipartisanship and working together with the White House, Miller will make that very difficult.
Miller is perhaps most known as Trump’s most influential advisers and a central architect of his restrictive immigration agenda. He serves as White House deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser in Trump’s second administration. Neither position requires Senate confirmation, although both give him substantial influence over federal policymaking and enforcement priorities.
Reporting describes him as a driving force behind efforts to increase immigration arrests and deportations, pressing enforcement officials to deliver more aggressive results. His combative style and close relationship with Trump have helped him maintain influence across agencies responsible for carrying out the administration’s agenda.
There were quick reactions to the news on social media.
"There are few officials in the administration more closely associated with the Trump policies/demeanor that led to Tuesday's midterms rebuke. So this is a very instructive move," noted Kyle Cheney, legal affairs reporter for Politico.
"Donald Trump just announced Stephen Miller as his new White House chief of staff. Let that sink in. Days after Republicans suffered massive election losses, Trump’s response is to put the architect of his mass deportation agenda in charge of the entire White House operation. The lesson Trump took from Election Day was that Stephen Miller needed MORE power. Absolutely f—— insane," wrote Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko.
"I did a big profile of Stephen Miller earlier this year," wrote Sam Friedman on BlueSky. "Called it 'The Most Dangerous Man in America.' This is going to go badly."
"MAGA is in full implosion," Keith Edwards, a progressive YouTuber, said.
"Putting Stephen Miller in as chief of staff after the entire election repudiated his attack on Hispanics... and lost the entire state of Texas in the process is peak self-destruction," posted the Contrarian's Jen Rubin.
