Stephen Colbert offers brutal insight on what GOPers really think of 'best on paper' Ron DeSantis

It's no secret that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is one of the few Republican leaders that could be a viable candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

Already, there a poll results that suggest he might fair better than former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election. However, "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert is outlining a number of key factors that could work against him.

On Tuesday, January 17, Colbert shed light on a report published by Politico that highlighted the opinions of Republican insiders. Although DeSantis seems popular in the far-right political world, insiders argue that he "lacks charm," which likely makes him less appealing to the average Republican voter.

Sharing his reaction to the report, Colbert feigned disbelief as he mocked the Republican governor saying, “Oh come on. He’s got the smooth style of a nonplayable character in a PlayStation 2 game.”

Colbert believes he has one distinct flaw working against him. According to the late-night talk show host, DeSantis lacks when it comes to embellishing his character. In short, DeSantis may appear impressive "on paper," but the "wow" factor does not last long.

Speaking to New York magazine, one political leader in Florida expounded on that, saying, “Ron is at his best on paper. Then you meet him and you say, ‘Oh, my gosh.’”

Colbert agreed but put a different spin on it. “It’s true, DeSantis is best on paper,” Colbert agreed, adding, “Specifically, that roll by the toilet.”
