Watch: Stephen Colbert slams CBS News over the controversial hiring of Mick Mulvaney

Late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert is not pleased with the CBS News network's decision to hire former Trump White House advisor Mick Mulvaney.

On Thursday's edition of "The Late Show," Colbert weighed in on Mulvaney's controversial hiring and had no reservations about making his displeasure clear.

"You know I'm a company man — I love CBS, our parent company Paramount, and its parent company, probably a defense contractor who makes boner pills, there's no way of knowing," Colbert said late Thursday. But "recently my network got a lot of criticism, much of it from itself because CBS News has hired the ex-president's former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, to 'provide political analysis across the network's broadcasts and platforms.'"

Colbert had one question for the network. “What the fuck?” he exclaimed.

The comedian went on to offer a brief history of Mulvaney, who previously served as acting White House chief of staff under the Trump administration. Like former President Donald Trump, Mulvaney has had a history of echoing conspiracy theories. In fact, Mulvaney had even criticized the press and media for unfavorable coverage on the Trump administration. Now, he's part of the media.

Due to Mulvaney's past, Colbert had another compelling question. “Why would the Tiffany Network’s venerable news division put this craven toady to a tyrant on their payroll?” he asked.

Mulvaney's hiring came shortly after CBS News President Neeraj Khemlani's speech to the network's staff. In the recording of Khemlani's remarks, which were obtained by The Washington Post, he predicted that Republicans may "take over" after the 2022 midterm elections as he suggested that the network might benefit from having more balanced perspectives from both sides of the political aisle.

To that, Colbert mocked the network again saying, “They’re not just reporting the news anymore, they’re predicting it now."

Although Colbert was discussing a serious issue, he made it clear he was simply joking.
