'Simply no merit': Ex-Giuliani/Trump associate urges Comer to drop Hunter Biden probe

During the 2020 presidential election, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was hoping that his associate Lev Parnas would be able to help him dig up some dirt on now-President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. Giuliani hoped that Parnas, a Ukrainian businessman, would find something on Hunter Biden's connection to Ukraine that would doom his father's presidential campaign and keep then-President Donald Trump in the White House.

Those hopes never materialized. Biden enjoyed a decisive victory, winning 306 electoral votes and defeating Trump by more than 7 million in the popular vote.

Nonetheless, MAGA Republicans' obsession with Hunter Biden remains. And Parnas, according to NBC News, is urging House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky) to give up a Hunter Biden investigation he considers pointless.

Rebecca Kaplan and Zoë Richards of NBC News report that Parnas voiced his concerns in a ten-page letter to Comer. In the letter, which NBC News has obtained a copy of, Parnas emphasized that there is "no evidence" that either Joe Biden or his son interfered in Ukrainian politics.

Parnas told Comer, "With all due respect, Chairman Comer, the narrative you are seeking for this investigation has been proven false many times over, by a wide array of respected sources. There is simply no merit to investigating this matter any further."

Kaplan and Richards note that Parnas has "offered to testify under oath" or "provide any information" that the House Oversight Committee needs.

Hunter Biden's public relations work on behalf of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma has been a major part of Comer's probe, but Parnas told the House Oversight chairman.

Parnas told Comer, "Never, during any of my communications with Ukrainian officials or connections to Burisma, did any of them confirm or provide concrete facts linking the Bidens to illegal activities."
