At least one Republican official was aghast at President Donald Trump's closing message on Monday.
MS NOW's Jonathan Lemire chatted with host Peter Alexander Tuesday morning about why Republicans are so annoyed with the president.
"Tariffs, Minneapolis, the Iran war, Epstein, you just go on and on. Data centers, AI, the Kennedy Center, putting his name on that, all of the vanity projects, all of the, you know, the enrichment, the corruption," said "Morning Joe" co-host Joe Scarborough, listing off all of Trump's missteps.
Alexander said he spoke with Republicans on Monday as Trump was speaking before the Reflecting Pool.
"One Republican texted me and said, 'This is not real life,'" recalled Alexander.
"It just feels like they're [Republicans] begging for a little bit of help," he said. "[Trump] has saddled them with all these things you indicate. And he And you can't fathom — you can't even make up this stuff. The idea that he's going to walk over the Reflecting Pool and talk about the algae on the closing day for half of his closing message speech and beyond right now. So, I think as it relates to the Republicans, I think there is a sense there's some concern about I think there's interest to know in how big the numbers are this day, because I think Donald Trump's power is a function of how close Republicans keep it on the Senate side in particular. The question is, if they get beat badly."
He also wondered which Republicans would be willing to step forward and come out publicly against Trump and toward 2028.
"You know, Democrats are going to do that in the next couple of weeks, or you probably know how soon these conversations happen or the announcements come," Alexander continued. "But the Republicans, if Donald Trump gets shellacked, then all of a sudden we'll see how soon they come out. What does it say about JD Vance? How does he change his sort of messaging going forward?"
He said the bigger discussion for Democrats is their "Day One" message on Jan. 3. He predicted that the television networks would chase shiny objects, while more are prepared to start investigations, hearings, impeachments and more.
