Arizona native Marla Wentz has been devastated by Donald Trump's presidency since Day 1.

"During the campaign, I said, halfway joking, if Trump won, I would go into mourning and wear black for as long as he is president," she told AlterNet. "I [also] decided to cover my face and count the days." 

After the election, she was moved to go through with her protest promise. She has recorded each day of her resistance in stunning photographic self-portraits.

There's a charitable element of the project, too: Every month she urges fans to donate to different causes through the link in her Instagram bio. This month, the benefactor is the Urgent Action Fund.

"One of my hobbies is urban exploring, photographing abandoned buildings," she explained. "I live in the suburbs near rural farming areas. So I like using the contrast of hope and despair you get from those types of locations."

Wentz's county, Maricopa, was the sole county of the nation's top 10 largest to elect Trump. 

"I knew it was trumpy, but I did not realize it was trumpiest," she noted. "However, I do live near the retirement community of Sun City and know what big Trump and Sheriff Joe [Arpaio] supporters they are."

Will Arizona's 20-year record for voting red soon be broken? 

"I've lived in the west outskirts of Phoenix my whole life," Wentz said. "When I was young, my parents bought two acres and built their own house. My father was a cement contractor. My parents were not extremely politically active, but always informed, and always voted. They were Democrats."
