United Autoworkers President Shawn Fain has been drawing former President Donald Trump's ire recently both with his endorsements of President Joe Biden and his criticism of Trump as a "scab."

Trump, meanwhile, has angrily fired back and called on autoworkers to "get rid of this dope" as their union leader.

Johns Hopkins University historian Leah Wright Rigueur, however, thinks Trump could be making a serious tactical error in taking on Fain, who won a massive contract for his workers last year.

"This is not a fight that Donald Trump wants," she explained. "We all know Donald Trump loves to fight. We also know Donald Trump loves to fight with labor. In fact, one of his first acts when he came into office in 2016-2017 was to pick a fight with a bunch of different labor leaders. As we all saw then, it turned out quite poorly."

Rigueur went on to argue that Fain's endorsement of Biden is particularly important given the clout it brings in Michigan, a state where polls show he is struggling with many Democratic voters who disapprove of his handling of Israel's war against Hamas.

"So what we see is Donald Trump raging against a larger institution that has essentially said, you know what, Joe Biden did the work, Joe Biden is who we're going to endorse," she declared.
