Mitch McConnell just admitted Democrats are to thank for the $4 billion in funds Kentucky is set to receive

In contrast to former President Donald Trump — who was openly hostile to the states that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton won in the 2016 election — President Joe Biden has stressed that he is concerned about the needs of all states in the U.S. regardless of whether or not they went for him in 2020. Red states have been benefiting considerably from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, including Kentucky — which stands to receive $4 billion in funds. And Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is acknowledging that Democrats are to thank for the money flowing into his state, while continuing to stress that he opposed the bill that made it possible.

HuffPost's Amanda Terkel reports that in Kentucky, "cities and counties are set to gain as much as $800 million to help them recover from the pandemic." But on July 6, according to Terkel, McConnell "made it clear that he had nothing to do with that money."

The Kentucky senator said of the Rescue Plan, "This doesn't make sense. It's wildly out of proportion to where the country is now. Well, it passed on a straight party-line vote. Not a single member of my party voted for it. So, you're going to get a lot more money."

"I didn't vote for it, but you're going to get a lot more money," he continued. "Cities and counties in Kentucky will get close to $700 or 800 million. If you add up the total amount that will come into our state ― $4 billion.... So, my advice to members of the legislature and others ― local officials ― is to spend it wisely, because hopefully, this windfall doesn't come along again."
