Paul Manafort, who worked as an advisor to former President Donald Trump and served as chairman for his 2016 presidential campaign, was recently removed from an aircraft after it was determined that his passport had been revoked.
Speaking to The Associated Press, Alvaro Zabaleta — a detective and public information officer for the Miami-Dade Police Department — confirmed Manafort's removal from the aircraft. Zabaleta also released a statement to The Hill about the former Trump official's travel plans. On Sunday, March 20, Manafort was preparing to depart Miami for Dubai on an Emirates Airline.
"Mr. Manafort was denied travel by [Customs and Border Protection] on scene and his US Passport was revoked and he could not take his flight. No further incident," Zabaleta said.
Manafort's latest debacle follows his sordid criminal history which led to him being sentenced to seven years behind bars.
Per The Hill:
"Manafort was previously the campaign chairman for former President Trump's 2016 campaign. In 2018, he was convicted on eight counts of bank and tax fraud by a Virginia jury. The case against Manafort had to do in part with whether he engaged in a scheme to avoid paying taxes on income he received for working as a political consultant for pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine."
Manafort, a longtime ally of the former president, was pardoned by Trump back in 2020 shortly before he left office.
