Watch: Lawrence O'Donnell torches Trump for dismissing DOJ aftermath he could have caused if he'd reversed the election

Lawrence O'Donnell, along with an MSNBC panel of hosts, recently shared their assessment of former President Donald Trump's actions leading up to the Electoral College vote last year as they pondered how he could have damaged the institution of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) if he'd managed to achieve his ultimate goal.

On Thursday, June 23, O'Donnell appeared alongside MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, and Ari Melber as he weighed in on the last House Select Committee hearings and the testimonies provided by some of the DOJ's top officials. During those testimonies, more details were divulged about the officials' threats to resign if Jeffrey Clark ultimately became the U.S. Attorney General.

Maddow noted that many of the political attacks that had been launched had been "conducted by Trump, personally" although he did have help from his many allies including former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and MyPillow CEO Mike Flynn.

O'Donnell also weighed in with his take on the latest testimony dialogue as he noted that it appeared to offer more detail than previous remarks. The MSNBC host also shed light on another important component the investigation suggests.

The political commentator also noted that Trump "didn't care about the damage he would do to the institution of the Department of Justice if he forced them to help with his election reversal scheme, but he did care that the scandal might end up being a bigger news story than the doubt he hoped to cast on the election."

The latest news comes as the House Select Committee continues its investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection. While Republicans are continuing to criticize and demean the investigations in hopes of damaging the panel's investigative credibility, it appears they are making progress in their efforts to hold those involved accountable for their actions.
