Joy Reid torches Ron DeSantis for trying to morph Florida into a 'petri dish for everything on 4Chan'

MSNBC's Joy Reid recently lambasted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for failing to prioritize the real issues in his state as he attempts to transform it into a “petri dish for everything on 4Chan” to open doors for a presidential run.

During a recent discussion with Florida State Sen. Shevrin Jones (D), Reid criticized the Republican governor for his laser focus on issues that are being described as "culture wars."

According to Mediaite, some of those issues include his ongoing battle with Disney as well as his attacks on "wokeism," immigration, and the study of Critical Race Theory in schools because it makes “white children feel sad.”

Reid said:

If you go by Ron DeSantis’ agenda you would think the most important things happening in Florida are Critical Race Theory which makes white children feel sad, library books that need to be banned. Not stopping Covid. You got to let Covid in your school, drag brunch and Disney World making movies with too many gay people in them.

Not the insurance crisis, I mean, hasn’t the insurance system collapsed in the state of Florida? There’s a huge housing crisis. It’s more expensive to live in Miami than New York City. Does he ever deal with it?

Jones also echoed some of Reid's claims and agreed that DeSantis seems to be prioritizing issues that are not of great importance to Florida residents. The Democratic lawmaker also expressed concern about the insurance challenges Florida residents have faced in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

Before concluding the interview, Reid also criticized DeSantis his support of the far-right 4Chan, a conspiracy theorist movement said to be connected to the January 6 insurrections.

“Your governor wants to make everything a petri dish for everything on 4Chan,” she told Jones. “Anything the people on 4Chan are screaming about, he wants to use it as a platform to make himself into the president. It’s pretty disgusting, but it’s what’s happening.”

So far, DeSantis has not announced his intent to run for president in 2024 although it is widely speculated.
