The 'Fox News of justice': Jon Stewart slams SCOTUS justices' flurry of controversial and conservative rulings

Former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart recently slammed the U.S. Supreme Court following its flurry of controversial rulings. During the latest segment of his podcast, "The Problem With Jon Stewart," he even described the conservative-majority justices as the "Fox News of justice.”

According to HuffPost, Stewart mainly focused on the overturning of Roe v. Wade which reversed a half-century-old legal landmark that paved the way for women's abortion rights. Stewart offered a critical assessment of the ruling describing it as an "ideological” decision as opposed to one based on constitutional backing.

Per HuffPost: "The ruling was not grounded 'in any kind of reasoned debate or philosophical' perspective, he complained, now making the Supreme Court the 'Fox News of justice, in my mind.'"

“It is a cynical pursuit in the same way that Fox News would come out with ‘We’re fair and balanced’ under the patina of what would be a high-status pursuit to the betterment of society: journalism.” Stewart also insisted that the high court is now a “cynical political arm."

Stewart also recalled the lengthy confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court nominees Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh where they both admitted, under oath, that they believed Roe v. Wade was “'settled law' that should not be substantially changed." However, that did not stop them from overturning the 1973 landmark.

He noted that in the “ridiculous Kabuki theater now of justice confirmation ... they can just go out there and just fucking lie" as he emphasized that the justices should understand the meaning and consequences of perjury.

“There is no consistency,” Stewart said of the latest rulings which included giving states the power to impose their own abortion bans while stripping away some gun restrictions in the state of New York.

He later added, “States can’t regulate guns, but they can regulate [the] uterus."
