'Holy moly': Manchin slammed after threatening to repeal his own bill

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is facing criticism for his latest threat to vote in favor of repealing the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill he crafted himself, due to the Biden administration implementing energy legal provisions.

The Democratic lawmaker's remarks came on Monday, April 24, when he appeared on Fox News with host Sean Hannity.

The lawmaker's remarks have taken many by surprise due to his involvement in advancing the initiative in the first place. During the segment, he explained his stance.

"Let me make it very clear," Manchin said as he insisted that he would do everything in his power to repeal the act if the Biden administration blows the 10-year investment.

He added, "And if they don't change, then I would vote to repeal my own bill."

Manchin also doubled down on his stance by retweeting the clip of his interview and weighing in with further remarks via Twitter.

"The Biden administration is breaking its word to the American public by ignoring the text of the #InflationReductionAct to pursue its radical climate agenda," Manchin tweeted. "Let me be clear: if this continues, I'll do everything in my power to stop them — including voting to repeal the IRA."

Reacting to Manchin's remarks, many have taken to Twitter with their assessments.

"Holy moly," tweeted PunchBowl News congressional reporter Andrew Desiderio. "Manchin threatens to vote to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act — a bill he crafted — over the Biden admin’s implementation of the energy provisions of the law."

West Virginia reporter Steve Allen also insists Manchin's actions are an attempt to save himself. "Manchin is a man who understands he is in real political trouble here in West Virginia," Allen tweeted. "He is doing everything he can to not drown."
