'So frustrating': Jasmine Crockett calls out MTG over her apology for 'toxic politics'

One Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives is encouraging Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to back up her words with her actions if she hopes to have her recent apology taken seriously.

In a Monday interview, CNN host Jake Tapper asked Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) what she thought about Greene's public apology for her role in contributing to "toxic politics" and her vow to lower the temperature in American political discourse. Tapper also wryly noted that Crockett once said Greene had a "bleach blonde, bad built, butch body" but only after Greene had insulted Crockett's appearance.

"The rivalry aside,you both agree on the Epsteinthing," Tapper said. "This has put heron the outs with President Trump ... You posted: 'This almost feelslike a moment where Marge shouldphone a friend. I'm here foryou, girl.' Have you spoken? Andwhat's your reaction to what shejust said?"

Crockett responded that her post was meant to be taken as "sarcasm," but that "there's always a little bit of truth in jest." The Democratic congresswoman emphasized "we all need to payattention to Trump and how heacts," calling him "the cause of all theconfusion and the destructionthat we have seen in politics." She also noted that political disagreements more often "turn violent," attributing that to Trump's effect on political discourse. She then pivoted to Greene's pledge to "put down the knives in poltics."

"I can appreciatewhat she says, but I'm going tohave to see her actions," Crockett said. "... Where was thistype of mood when we saw whathappened to Mr. [Paul] Pelosi in hishome, who's not even an electedofficial, but because somebodydecided to go after Nancy Pelosi? ... We had local electedleaders murdered here recently,the former speaker of the housein Minnesota, like, where wasthis, right?"

"And so what is sofrustrating for me with not only Marjorie, but MAGA as a whole is,they're in the find-out phase," she continued, referring to the popular slang phrase "f—— around, find out."

"And so now that it's hittingthem, they're like, 'oh mygosh, this is awful.' But youshould have looked at thisexternally and said, this is anawful environment!" she added.

The Texas lawmaker then reminded viewers that Fox News published a report about her spending tens of thousands of dollars on private security-related expenses "because of all of the hate thatpeople like Marjorie and otherMAGA [figures] put out there." She then lamented that both Trump and MAGA influencers like Laura Loomer were mocking Greene for needing security.

"If the presidentthinks this is a joke, then giveus all the money back for thesecurity that we pay for!" She said. "Forhim to go and golf or to go andwherever he is going, give usthe money back. And maybe some Americans can get some healthcare, and maybe some childrencan get some food."
