House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) was exposed Thursday for sending thousands of emails using two addresses listed to fake names, according a report.

The information came from a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request made by the Daily Beast's senior political reporter Roger Sollenberger.

Taking to X, Sollenberger wrote that, while working as the Kentucky Agricultural Commissioner, Comer used the two email aliases to send between 1,600 and 2,700 emails. At least some of them involved secret business he did with China, according to previous reports.

"In a previous communication, you were advised that more than 1591 parent emails containing 199 attachments had been identified as possibly related to your request," read the letter sent to Sollenberger by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.

"During a subsequent search, we found an additional 2,716 emails and attachments possibly related to your request. Accordingly, the KDA will require one additional week to review the attachments only and redact exempt information.

"We intend to produce the attachments to all emails on or before July 5, 2024. Nevertheless, per 21-ORD-045 n. 3 and as a sign of good faith that the Department is not intending to delay access to records, we are today providing you with the emails that were discovered during our initial search and the second batch of 2,716 emails, most of which are duplicates, and therefore, we are providing those as a separate .PDF," the letter continued.

The news shocked legal analysts.

"You wrote a couple THOUSAND emails using an alias while doing secret business with China??" exclaimed Allison Gill.

Criminal defense attorney Janet Johnson quipped, "But his emails," a reference back to comments made about 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
