While addressing the annual National Prayer Breakfast, President Donald Trump once again doubled down on the disproven claim that he won the 2020 election — particularly in Georgia. CNN host Jake Tapper spent part of his latest show taking apart the president's argument piece by piece.

In a Thursday segment, Tapper noted that Trump remained "laser-focused onrewriting his 2020 election loss" in spite of overwhelming evidence that he lost both the popular vote and the Electoral College. He then observed that Trump used his captive audience at the National Prayer Breakfast — which is typically a non-partisan event — to defend his controversial FBI raid of an election facility in Fulton County, Georgia and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard's presence at the raid.

"Georgia wascentral to Trump's false, debunked claim that the 2020election was rigged, which itwas not," Tapper said. "... Why send Gabbard? It's a question that isbaffling. Many seniorintelligence officials andelection election law expertswho say that Gabbard's job as Director of National Intelligence gives her no legalauthority over an FBI search."

The CNN host pointed out that Trump recently told NBC News that Gabbard was in Georgia because "we have to have honest elections."

"There should benothing wrong with the fact thatthey went in, got ballots from awhile ago, and they're going tolook at them, and now they'regoing to find out the truewinner of that state," Trump told NBC News' Tony Llamas.

"Oh, you want to know the truewinner of the state of Georgiain 2020, President Trump? I canclear that up," Tapper said after playing the clip of Trump's NBC interview. "It was President Biden. No matter how badly youwish that were not true."

"Theidea that Trump won Georgia hasbeen thoroughly debunked by Republicans and multiplerecounts and audits and topofficials in Trump's firstadministration," Tapper continued. "... But the truthis not what this is apparentlyabout for President Trump. It'sabout his ego. But that's not myinterpretation of this. That'swhat he said today."

Tapper then aired a clip of Trump telling the National Prayer Breakfast that he needed to win the 2020 election "for my own ego."

"Iwould have had a bad ego for therest of my life," Trump said. "Now I reallyhave a big ego, though. Beatingthese lunaticswas incredible ... The first time, you know, they said I didn't winthe popular vote. I did."

"President Trump, again, did notwin the popular vote in 2020," Tapper said. "The real issues here, though, when it comes to whateverinvestigation the administrationis cooking up when it comes tothese ballots, is, A: The Trumpadministration and President Trump regularly lies to thepublic about even things that wecan see with our own eyes andhear with our own ears, and. B: Wealready know what happens when President Trump requires apre-ordained outcome in lawenforcement activities relatedto his political desires. Justlook up FBI Director James Comey,or New York Attorney General Letitia James."
