House Republican says GOP will 'absolutely have to take a look at' Obamacare repeal if it wins midterms

United States Congressman Scott Perry (R-California) told reporters at a Thursday press conference that if Republicans win control of Congress in the November midterms, another attempt to repeal Obamacare is on the table.

"If your party is in the majority next year would you push for repealing the A[ffordable] C[are] A[ct]? Do you expect that to be a priority and what would you replace it with?" Perry was asked.

"I will tell you this. Right now with inflation – which doesn't include food and fuel and other things that it should – is at about eight-and-a-half percent. It's probably closer to fifteen percent. It's historically high, at least forty years. But what's leading the Consumer Price Index right now is the cost of healthcare. The Affordable Health Care Act [sic] made healthcare unaffordable. Between that, energy costs, and food costs, many poor families and working-class families are really starting to struggle and as soon as energy becomes a real issue with wintertime coming, they're gonna have a hard time making ends meet," Perry replied.

"I think the Republican Party absolutely needs to address healthcare and these policies from the Democrats, the Left, and the Biden Administration of price controls and no market forces involved in healthcare are gonna continue to drive it up," Perry continued.

"Republicans have to be the champion of people being involved in their own healthcare decisions and their own healthcare prices. And so far, that's not how it's been," he added. "So we're gonna absolutely have to take a look at it if we're gonna help working-class Americans be able to afford to stay healthy."

The GOP has tried and failed to gut former President Barack Obama's signature health care law more than seventy times – as of January 2017.
