Mike Pence says 'history will hold Donald Trump accountable' for January 6th: report

Former Vice President Mike Pence held no punches during a Saturday night speech at the annual Gridiron dinner in Washington DC, where he stated that ex-President Donald Trump will ultimately bear all blame for the events of January 6th, 2021.

"President Trump was wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day. And I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable," Pence said, according to The Washington Post.

"The American people have a right to know what took place at the Capitol on January 6th," Pence continued. "But make no mistake about it, what happened that day was a disgrace, and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way."

Pence then shared an unflattering anecdote from the Trump days.

"I once invited President Trump to Bible study," Pence recalled. "He really liked the passages about the smiting and perishing of thine enemies. As he put it, 'Ya know, Mike, there’s some really good stuff in here.'"

Pence also spoke briefly about his intentions for the 2024 presidential contest.

“I will wholeheartedly, unreservedly support the Republican nominee for president in 2024," Pence said. "If it’s me."
