Former Fox host explains why she urged Dominion Voting Systems not to settle

A former Fox News anchor has revealed how she urged Dominion Voting Systems to resist settling its defamation lawsuit against Fox News.

On Wednesday, April 19, former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson appeared on CNN’s Anderson Cooper where she weighed in on the $787.5 settlement which comes out to a little less than half of the $1.6 billion the voting technology company initially asked for.

According to Carlson, she vicariously "lived through Dominion" throughout the legal proceedings.

When asked if she was surprised by the settlement, Carlson admitted that she was more surprised the legal proceedings went on as long as they did.

“As somebody who’s also had a very high-profile lawsuit against the former CEO and chairman of Fox News, Roger Ailes, as somebody who’s been silenced as a result of that ― [not] being able to tell all the facts of what actually happened to me ― you know, I was vicariously living through Dominion and hoping that they would be able to get to the truth,” Carlson told Cooper.

When Carlson was asked why she believes Fox News opted to settle despite going all the way to trial, she said, “I think that they saw the writing on the wall.”

“The judge had several rulings during hearings that were not in their favor,” she said. “And it could have also been the makeup of the jury. I mean, remember the jury was seated, and maybe they didn’t like what they saw.”

She also offered another perspective on the reason for the settlement saying, “And also, I think that they obviously did not want their top hosts to be ... media fodder for five or six weeks under oath."
