George Santos staff member predicts how his political future could be impacted amid ongoing scandals

Political staffers for Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) are speaking out with grim possibilities regarding his political future as he continues to face uphill legal battles and ongoing controversies.

According to HuffPost, one staff admitted that they wouldn't be surprised if he was “perp walked out of a building” while another staffer also expressed concern about "something not feeling 'right' on the campaign."

The details were divulged in a report published by Talking Points Memo on Wednesday, January 11. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one staffer also discussed the lies he'd included on his resume and what that suggests about him.

“Lying on your résumé is one thing,” the staffer said. “But I think George is going to be perp walked out of a building because of this financial mess.”

The latest report follows an uptick in incriminating developments surrounding Santos.

Per the news outlet, the staffers' remarks come just "two days after the government watchdog group Campaign Legal Center filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that the newly seated Republican congressman had violated federal campaign finance laws and concealed “the true sources” of the $705,000 he loaned to his 2022 campaign."

The staffer also highlighted Santos' delays in disclosing his personal financial documents saying, “I thought that the lack of a financial disclosure, the messiness of the books, and the reporting were not great."

Toby Gotesman also weighed in to recall her conversations with Santos about finances while he was on the campaign trail.

“He was explaining to me how certain things worked with the campaign, and there were certain things he couldn’t know about, and I had to deal with Nancy if somebody wanted to give more than the limit,” Gotesman said. “Now ... I see what he did, and then I started to think here I am introducing my lifetime friends to this guy and asking them for money. I wish I hadn’t.”

She also recalled the Republican lawmaker boasting about purchasing a Hermès bag that cost more than $10,000; something she admitted was offsetting.

She said, “You know how your first instinct of a red flag is always what comes back to bite you in the ass later?"

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are now calling for Santos' resignation.
