'Just like Mr. Trump': Ex-federal prosecutor rips GA co-defendant’s 'wrong and dumb' legal defense

A former federal prosecutor recently pointed out how Harrison Floyd — one of former President Donald Trump's co-defendants in the Georgia RICO case — is behaving like the ex-president both in court appearances and in the crafting of his own defense.

During a Tuesday court appearance, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis argued for Floyd's bond to be revoked following a series of social media posts in which he tagged several witnesses in the case. Willis said the posts constituted a violation of three of the seven conditions of Floyd's bond order, and that Judge Scott McAfee should "remand him today."

While awaiting his new bond conditions to be revealed, Floyd told reporters "[Willis is] just mad she can’t get past the Uncle Tom… she's just a little district attorney and I'm presidential." And during a moment in the hearing when Willis referred to Trump as "co-defendant Trump," Floyd interjected and said "President Trump," prompting admonishment from Judge McAfee.

Floyd's attorney asked the judge to not revoke Floyd's bond but to instead adjust the terms of the agreement, adding that if McAfee told his client to "tone it down" that he would "do what you tell him to do."

While talking to MSNBC host Joy Reid — who referred to Floyd's behavior in court as a "ridiculous performative mess" — Georgetown Law professor and former Department of Justice prosecutor Paul Butler opined that Floyd's argument that he was the target of a political persecution made him sound "just like Mr. Trump." He added that Floyd's assertion that he was being targeted for being Black was "weird" considering that both Floyd and Willis are African American.

"Donald Trump loves to call Black prosecutors racists. He said that about [Manhattan District Attorney Alvin] Bragg, he said it about [New York Attorney General] Letitia James, and he said it about DA Willis," Butler said. "According to the defense, DA Willis is just another Black woman trying to bring a Black conservative down. We don't have time to unpack to unpack how wrong and dumb that claim is."
