Exposing Hillary Clinton's Republican Attack Dog Trey Gowdy: 'Answers to All Our Political Questions Are in the Bible'

Other than his role in the Benghazi hearings, little is known nationally about the politics of Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC). A speech he gave in 2014 offers a glimpse into his worldview.

While in some ways the clout of the religious right is waning in the Republican party (witness the rise of Donald Trump), Gowdy is an ally of conservative evangelicals. In June 2014, Gowdy spoke to the 65,000-member Second Baptist Church in Houston, offering a blend of religion and politics.

“The answers to all our political questions are in the Bible… But what good does that do unless you know the Bible?” he asked the congregants.

Despite his highly political – and negative – Benghazi crusade against Hillary Clinton, Gowdy at the time preached a more forgiving tone. “You should demand that your candidates not only vote the right way, but act the way,” he said saying that, “you don't insult people into changing their minds.”

According to the Houston Chronicle, he denounced negative campaigning in his remarks and didn't mention the Benghazi hearings once. A year and a half later, Gowdy appears to be following a completely different tack.
