'Spinoff of the Real Housewives of Atlanta': Experts mock Trump co-defendant’s new filing

Mike Roman, who is one of former President Donald Trump's co-defendants in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' RICO case, responded within hours to Willis' filing on Friday that dismissed his allegations of impropriety as "meritless." Roman's filing is currently being dragged through the mud by various experts on social media for its emphasizing of salacious drama unrelated to the case itself.

In the 25-page filing initially tweeted by Lawfare correspondent Anna Bower, Roman argues that an evidentiary hearing on his allegations is necessary "to test the assertions of the state" that Willis' personal relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade isn't a disqualifying factor. Roman also included examples of questions he wanted to ask Wade on cross-examination, like:

"In Paragraph 17 of your affidavit, you swore that you met Ms. Willis in October of 2019 at a Municipal Court training. Isn’t it true that you began more than just a friendship at that conference?"

"In Paragraph 31 of your affidavit, you swore that you have never cohabitated with Ms. Willis but the attached documents show you shared a king size bed with her in Aruba from November 1, 2022 until November 4, 2022," another question read.

Roman also said he planned to enter into the court's record that "witnesses will testify that you cohabitated with Ms. Willis at her home in South Fulton until her father moved in with her and you then began to cohabitate at the apartment of a friend of hers in East Point."

The filing was quickly ridiculed by various legal experts on X (formerly Twitter). Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann tweeted that Roman's arguments were "so weak that I really wonder why he bothered; it screams out to any respectable judge that this has all the hallmarks of an irrelevant side show." Journalist Marcy Wheeler wrote that the filing basically suggests that Roman "intends to introduce every time Willis and Wade f---ed into the public record."

"This hearing is going to get very dramatic very quickly," law professor Anthony Michael Kreis tweeted. "Judge [Scott] McAfee is going to have to keep folks on a tight leash to avoid things devolving into a spinoff of the Real Housewives of Atlanta."
